Jiu-Jitsu That Builds Control, Resilience, and Real Self-Defence Skills

Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that rewards leverage, timing, and problem-solving over size alone. At Modern Warrior Academy in New Westminster, adult classes blend Judo, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a progressive curriculum that keeps beginners safe while giving experienced grapplers room to sharpen competition and self-defence applications.

Ground Fighting & Submissions

Learn positional hierarchy, escapes, and finishing holds with clear coaching on mechanics and safety, so you build a complete ground game, not a collection of random internet moves.

Full-Body Strength & Conditioning

Grappling develops grip, core stability, and cardio in ways that transfer to daily life. It is a serious workout, and no treadmill has ever tried to pass your guard.

Takedowns & Wrestling Integration

Stand-up grappling and Judo-based entries complement BJJ-style groundwork so you can get the fight where you want it and keep control once you are there.

Honest Answers Before Your First Class

Searching for jiu-jitsu lessons near me can make every gym sound the same. Here is what matters at Modern Warrior: you can start where you are, you will be guided step by step, and you do not have to prove toughness on day one.

Do I have to be in shape first?

No. You do not have to be in shape to start. That is part of why we train. Come in, learn the basics, and let fitness build honestly.

Will I have to roll hard right away?

No. Live rolling is introduced progressively. First you learn movement, safety, positions, and how to be a good training partner.

Is this real BJJ or mixed grappling?

Both ideas are true here. We teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu concepts alongside wrestling and Judo influence, so your grappling is practical on the feet and on the ground.
